Saturday, the 21st March 2015 was a great day for a team of junior bowlers from our Club. They topped off a very busy and exciting season by coming within one shot of winning the Northampton Junior Cup.
This was the first time that we had entered a team into this competition and, considering it was a new venue, they soon ‘got to grips’ with the away green and won their first game against the home team. They were unlucky to lose their second match by 2 shots when the Jack was moved by 1 inch to give the opposition two shots . After winning the last game there was a tie between the two top teams and the result was decided by shot difference. The winning team won by 1 shot and this was the team that Church Gresley lost to by two shots.
The previous week our juniors won their first Midlands League game away at local rivals Carlton.
The important thing is that our juniors had a great day and are really enjoying their bowling.
Church Gresley Juniors have had a very good season with 9 players competing in the EBYDS National Event. We also competed in the new Midlands Junior League, sharing the Carlton and Church Gresley Junior Cup. One of our 11 year olds reached the finals of the National under 15’s where he won one game, drew the second and lost his final game to the eventual winner.
The outdoor season starts in April so some of our juniors will be playing outdoors with at least two of them playing for a County under 25 team.
This is a great time for any juniors wanting to have a try at bowls to come along to Church Gresley Indoor Bowls Club between 9:30 and 11:30 any Sunday morning for a free game.
