Dear Bowling Member,
I am writing to you on behalf of my fellow Trustees to let you know about our plans for the re-opening of the Indoor Bowling Centre. Subject to the current Government restrictions being lifted, we are hoping to re-open on Tuesday, 1 September. There will be no increase in membership subscriptions or rink fees and, as in previous years, members signing up a new member will receive a free membership for the 2020/21 bowling season.
The way we do things will clearly have to change significantly in view of the risks posed by the virus. A glazed partition is currently being installed around the office counter and, in order to ensure social distancing, a one way system will be in operation, the changing rooms will be closed and the lockers will be unavailable. On arrival, members will need to use the hand sanitizer that will be provided and then go to the restaurant area and sit down by the table reserved for the rink they will be using. Shoes will need to be changed and bags stored there. As far as possible, bowlers will need to remain with those using the same rink and not mingle with others.
Further details will be given nearer the time. If the current ban on indoor sport is lifted before September we will consider opening on Tuesday and possibly Thursday mornings but this would depend upon the likely demand from members and we certainly have no plans for this at present. I will write to you nearer the time when we know more.
Government’s further easing of COVID-19 Lockdown
Following the Prime Minister’s statement earlier today on the next steps of easing the lockdown I wish to advise that unfortunately Indoor Bowls, along with other Indoor Sports and Gyms, were not included in the permitted activities. Therefore, Indoor Bowls Clubs are to remain closed.
The EIBA will continue to liaise with Sport England as they work closely with the Government to ensure that Indoor sports facilities can open as soon as possible.
In addition, we will be studying the Government’s guidance, when published, relating to the new social distancing of 1 metre plus, so that we can update our ‘Returning to Indoor Bowls’ document in order for Clubs to continue making appropriate preparations for when the sport can re-commence.
As soon as we have further information in these matters, we will update our affiliated Clubs and County Associations.
