A Brighter Future For Gresley Indoor Bowls

New LED lighting at the Indoor Bowling Centre at Gresley Old Hall in Church Gresley is proving a big hit with bowlers and management alike. The 40 metre long bowling carpet takes a lot of lighting and more than 120 LED panels are being installed to replace the fluorescent lighting fitted when the Centre first opened 30 years ago. As well as improving the lighting for bowlers the new panels use less than half the electricity and will thereby make the Centre more financially and environmentally sustainable. Bowls captain, Mark O’Connell, who is pictured holding one of the new LED panels, said “As the work has proceeded the difference between the old and new lighting has been clear for all to see and the improvement is striking”. The work is due to be completed next week. [22January].

Gresley Old Hall Chairman, Roy Hyde, said “We are grateful to the South Derbyshire Miners Association and the Community Priorities Fund of South Derbyshire District Council for their financial support for this important lighting project. Their funding will also enable us to renew the heating of the bowling centre during the summer. We will shortly be celebrating the 30th anniversary of it’s actual opening in the autumn of 1990 and it’s official opening by Princess Diana in January 1991 so this is a great way to be starting our anniversary year”.
